5 BANDS TO SEE @ SXSW 2016
PWR BTTM – NYC
Eschewing mediocrity for a full-on queer punk motif, PWR BTTM is a punk duo sodomizing the status quo. Energetic and positive, the message of their music is uplifting which pairs well with a en eye-full of DIY showmanship that grips it’s audience. Ben Hopkins and Liv Bruce plan on shocking at SXSW 2106 and while their dynamic may be a bit off the beaten path, they don’t seem to care about what other people think and there is nothing more punk rock than that

Swimm – LA
Chris Hess and Adam Winn of the psych-pop duo Swimm, have brought their unique beach breeziness and pensive lyrics from Florida to LA. The recently released, Beverly Hells, is a sun-drenched relaxing ride through a genre-bending soundscape. Lo-fi, surf-infused, indie has never been more emotive. Fluidity and weightlessness pervade their sound but their live performances are also as visceral as it can get, and their SXSW 2016 shows should be no different.
Xylo – LA
Cinematic dark indie pop that is as haunting as it is infectious,Xylo is growing their following rapidly with their charismatic live performances. A brother-sister duo who hail from a music family, Chase and Paige have launched a foray into music with deft piano chords, atmospheric instrumentals, and lustful vocals. This Southern Californian group has synthesized hip-hop, indie pop, and electronica into a unique sound worthy of the vast attention they have been receiving.

Louis The Child – Chicago
While the majority of their release shave been remixes, Freddy Kennett and Robert Hauldren of the Chicago-based, Louis the Child, have proven their musical prowess both vocally and melodically. Highly influenced by R&B and hip-hop, LTC has made fans out of pop powerhouses like Lorde and Taylor Swift. The duo’s smash hit “It’s Strange” featuring K. Flay has quickly projected them into the synth-pop mainstream and their momentum continues to wax as they play more shows. This 2016 SXSW should be a coming out party for the talented electro-wunderkind.
Day Wave – Oakland
Having only begun his journey in 2015, Jackson Philips left his pop band, Carousel, to become a solo instrumentalist under the name Day Wave. Drawing heavily from a Beach Boy’s sound that is tinged with new wave influences, Jackson Philips has created a lush atmosphere of music that exudes Summertime vibes. Although he has not released an official full-length album yet, there will definitely be some buzz around Day Wave at SXSW 2016.
